The Nomads

The Samburu nomads are known as the 'butterfly people' or Sampiripiri in the Maa language, and we've always been enchanted by their culture and perspectives. They are most famous for their warriors whose role is to protect the family's livestock from predators or raiders and maintain order and peace. Warriors are highly disciplined, living by a Spartan and martial ethic, and most of our team come from their ranks.

We believe that conservation-led tourism plays a crucial role in providing alternative livelihoods and skill sets for the people that share the land with elephants and other wildlife, which encourages peaceful co-existence. So we're very proud to employ almost entirely from the local nomadic community as we believe they are by far the best ambassadors for the wild world. We've also championed the education of many bright young students in Samburu County who are now graduating and returning home to make a difference. â€‹
